Bloggers Give Up Their Dreams For You

An internet study has found that those with heavy electronic usage before bedtime did not sleep as well as those who keep usage to a minimum.

That being said, this was an internet survey (ironic). And if 3 hours of the internet counts as heavy usage, I shudder to think what kind of extreme category I would be placed in. Or anyone who makes their living via the ‘net.

But the crux of the matter is that all your favorite blogs are written by those that sacrifice a more restful sleep pattern to satistify your quest for knowledge. So be a bit more appreciative:

  • Become a commenter instead of a lurker.
  • Refer a friend (internet or otherwise) to a favorite blog.
  • StumbleUpon, Blogger search, Google blog search, etc. and find a new obsession or point of view.
  • If you are a blogger yourself, throw good old fashioned linky love someone’s way.
  • Digg/Stumble/[Insert favorite social networking site here] a favorite article.
  • Thank your favorite blogger for doing what they do.

What are you waiting for? Staying under 3 hours means you need to move quickly!

It’s a hard life for us ‘bloggers!

We’re a much maligned an unappreciated lot these days.

But seriously, there’s nothing more rewarding than checking your email to discover that someone has submitted your stuff to Digg, StumbleUpon et cetera, or that someone has taken the time to comment on your articles.

Make all of the effort we invest worth while…

I love to blog, but I refuse to lose sleep over blogging. It just isn’t that important to me.

No, I am not a slacker blogger, but when I get to the point of over-blogging, then it is time to find something else to do.

Sometimes we bloggers need to have good balance in our lives.

    Thanks for the comment, Matt.

I hear what you are saying about having to set limitations for yourself – and judging from your blog, it seems to be working quite well!

The problem is the blurred line between business and pleasure: when your blog is regarding a topic you are passionate about, sometimes it’s difficult to know when to call it quits for the night. Or when you are endlessly reading articles – is it for blog research or personal interest?

Like Wayne mentioned above (great point by the way!), the satisfaction bloggers get when their work is recognized is a pleasure all in itself.

But, I agree, balance is key.

This is so true. But I would add a slight warning to one of your suggestions:

“StumbleUpon, Blogger search, Google blog search, etc. and find a new obsession or point of view.”

I can see the growth of StumbleUpon as being the beginnings of a worldwide insomnia epidemic! :)
