My Friend The Wind Does Not Want My Caution

I rushed into this.  That aside, however, I’m excited to take my first nimble step toward having a big-girl blog.

This site is really just a sacrifical lamb.  It will be martyred so that my following skills may flourish:

  • Programming - This is an important one. I haven’t done any “hard coding” since high school, the knowledge from which has basically dissintigrated from my brain.  But it’s like a bike, right? Right.
  • Voice – I was an English major in college, so I’m going to take a wild guess and say forming an online voice will be among the most difficult of my challenges.  I’m too overcritical and I know too much about what I’m doing wrong, and not enough about how to make it right.
  • Research – I always loved research, even more so than reading or writing my papers in school.  Research is organized (unlike me), predictable (unlike me), and credible (the jury is still out on this one) – but it’s a beast I can tame.
  • Scavanging – This will be my first victory.  I’m up to 115 RSS feeds, and going strong.  Again, that English degree is coming in handy – I know how to sift through bullshit and skim the good stuff.
  • Frequency – I need to figure out how many times I day I can post while at my other job (shh don’t tell my boss), at home, over the weekends, when I’m PMSing, etc. and not drive myself insane.
  • Discovery - I know, it’s vague and touchy-feely, but a true goal.  I need to figure out why the heck anyone would come and read what I have to say and about what.  I have what I think could be some profitable niche ideas, but that’s different than being interesting

So this is all about money, you ask?  No, it’s for the love of knowledge, community, and the pursuit of truth.  Of course it’s for the money – but not in the way you may think.  If I needed a get-rich-quick-scheme I would follow the black-hats of the cyberworld.  I want to be my own boss.  That is my ultimate goal, and it won’t be any fun unless I have money.

Think I’m a jerk or a saint?  Well then, why do you blog?
